About Us

From a student-led idea to a community-wide health care collaboration.

Healthcare Horizons is a collaborative community initiative connecting Chatham-Kent students with health care professionals, educators, post-secondary institutions, emergency services, and community organizations. Through immersive experiences and career exploration, students are introduced to the wide range of opportunities available within health care and the educational pathways that can help them get there.

Healthcare Horizons was created to bring health care career exploration directly to students while strengthening connections between local education, health care, and the community. By learning from the people who work and study in these fields, students can explore possibilities, ask questions, and begin imagining where their own future in health care could lead.

Our Story

Healthcare Horizons began with a vision from the Chatham-Kent Nursing Society — a student-led group representing Practical Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) students at St. Clair College’s Chatham Campus. Seeking to connect with the local community after the pandemic, the society wanted to give high school students a hands-on look at health care careers. In June 2025, then-Vice President Brandon Boundy turned that vision into reality, leading a successful pilot event that proved how eager local students were for interactive learning.

Recognizing the potential for a much larger movement, Boundy founded Healthcare Horizons to expand the concept across all health care fields. On March 24, 2026, the initiative hosted approximately 170 students at partner organizations Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and St. Clair College. Participants engaged in interactive demonstrations, met with professionals, and explored career pathways alongside health care organizations, educators, emergency services, school boards, municipal leaders, and community partners.

Healthcare Horizons is driven by a clear mission: to inspire students to imagine their future in health care, explore careers through immersive experiences outside the classroom, and connect directly with post-secondary pathways and local mentors.

What started as a student idea to introduce nursing has evolved into an annual, community-wide collaboration. Supported by key regional partners, including the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Healthcare Horizons continues to expand its reach, strengthening the pipeline between local education and the regional health care workforce, and empowering the next generation to build their future right here at home.
